Update: September 2006
After one of the driest summers on record we were worried that water
hungry marrows would be in short supply. However, at our official
'weigh-in' on 23rd September, there was no shortage of marrows grown with
the official Marrowthon seeds, although none were what you would call a
whopper!
The heaviest marrow weighed in at 17lb 12oz thanks to Alan Burley and the longest marrow measured 22inches, grown by our
Treasurer Mr Ted Ingram!
Ted Ingram put his winning marrow down to the fantastic soil at the
Woodside Avenue allotment site and 33 year's worth of muck and as well as
tons of Pro-Grow in recent times.
Thanks to all who took part in this year's Marrow-growing efforts and
we now have a target to beat for next year.
Needless to say, there are now loads of marrows up for grabs. If
you are quick, you may be able to pick one up from the Woodside
Avenue allotment site. All donations in exchange for
a marrow will go towards the Aplastic Anaemia Trust Appeal.
